Adeda’s Death: Commissioner, Three Others Nabbed, as Police Declare Two 'Wanted'
The Commissioner for Secondary Education, Dr Kingsley Ashibogwu, and three others have been arrested over the death of a Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr Unity Ekpevbughe Adeda.
The latest arrests bring to five the number of suspects currently in custody of the Delta State Police Command, in connection with the investigation.
The command, in a statement on Monday by its spokesman, SP Bright Edafe, also launched a manhunt for the Director of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs Clementine Ufuoma, and the commissioner’s driver, Clement Apia.
Adeda’s death occurred in circumstances that have generated concerns and calls for a thorough investigation. The police had earlier taken one suspect into custody as part of efforts to unravel what happened to the deputy director.
The command said the latest arrests followed its continuing investigation into the circumstances surrounding Adeda’s death.
Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel Erale, urged the two suspects being sought to make themselves available to the police, assuring that the investigation would be conducted “thoroughly, impartially and professionally.”
He also assured the deceased’s family and the public that due process would be followed and anyone found culpable would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
The command expressed condolences to Adeda’s family.
