The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three men linked to the abduction of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State to life imprisonment.

The convicts are Abdulrazak Umar, alias Abu Khalifa/Abu Khalid; Yunusa Musa, alias Yunusa Bin Musa; and Shamsu Adamu Sani, alias Abu Itisar.

They pleaded guilty to membership of a proscribed terrorist group and concealing information about the planning and execution of the abduction.

The first convict, Umar, also pleaded guilty to additional charges bordering on terrorist training, passing instructions and inciting members of a terror group.

Counsel for the defendants pleaded for leniency, citing their status as first-time offenders, their guilty pleas, families and aged parents who depend on them.

However, the prosecution argued that they should have reported their knowledge of terrorist activities to the authorities.

Justice Salim Ibrahim sentenced the three convicts to life imprisonment, with the sentences taking effect from the dates of their arrests.
