Udu Council Chairman Condemns Attack on Staff, Warns Egiegi Community

The Chairman of Udu Local Government Area in Delta State, Olorogun Vincent Oyibode, has condemned an attack on a council staff member by youths in the Egiegi community. The incident occurred during an attempt to deliver an official invitation for talks over the disputed removal of the community’s elected president, Bishop Ugbosu.

Oyibode said previous efforts to engage community leaders had been met with hostility. He claimed that on two earlier occasions, his media aide was threatened, while on the third, a council official, Pastor Amos Ogodo, was physically assaulted.

He warned that removing an elected leader without involving the local authority undermines public order and could be considered treasonous. The chairman said such actions show clear disregard for the rule of law and the office he holds.

Oyibode, who promotes a leadership style based on consultation and consolidation, said he may be forced to take firmer action if the situation continues. He urged the Egiegi community to respect lawful authority and work towards peace.
