The incident reportedly occurred along Sheriff Oborevwori Way, formerly Airport Road, during a rally procession by NDC supporters. Videos circulating online showed a confrontation involving some of the participants, although the circumstances surrounding the clash remain subject to investigation.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Charles Aniagwu, said the government was concerned by the incident and maintained that every political party, candidate and supporter has the right to campaign freely across Delta without intimidation, harassment or obstruction.

Aniagwu said Governor Sheriff Oborevwori had directed security agencies to investigate the incident and ensure that anyone found culpable faces the full weight of the law.

He stressed that political competition should be based on ideas, programmes and records rather than violence or intimidation.
