Delta State Police Command operatives have arrested a 55-year-old man suspected of gun running along the Warri/Benin road in the Ethiope-West Local Government Area. The suspect, identified as Peter James, was apprehended during a routine stop and search operation near Western Delta University in Oghara.

James, a native of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was driving a blue Toyota Camry with the registration number PHC 257 NT. During the search, police noticed that the car’s trunk appeared unusually small, which raised suspicions of illicit modifications. Upon further investigation, the operatives removed the car’s seat and discovered a hidden stash of weapons and ammunition.

The police recovered three AK-47 rifles, 2,080 rounds of 7.62mm AK-47 ammunition, and 1,040 rounds of 51mm ammunition, all packed into four boxes.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, confirmed the arrest and stated that the suspect is now in custody while investigations are ongoing.
