The Delta State Police Command has launched a statewide enforcement operation targeting vehicles without registration number plates, as well as those displaying concealed, altered, defaced, or unreadable plates.

This was announced in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, who disclosed that the exercise is being carried out in compliance with a directive from the Inspector-General of Police.

According to the Command, the initiative is aimed at enhancing public safety and strengthening law enforcement efforts to identify vehicles, prevent criminal activities, and apprehend offenders across the state.

The police explained that vehicles operating without valid registration plates or with intentionally obscured plate numbers pose significant security risks, as they are difficult to trace and are often exploited by criminals to evade detection.

Consequently, vehicle owners and operators have been urged to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and that number plates remain clearly visible at all times. The Command warned that any vehicle found without approved registration plates or with tampered registration details would be stopped, impounded, and subjected to legal action in accordance with existing laws.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda Oyeniyi, also directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to coordinate, supervise, and monitor the exercise to ensure professionalism, uniformity, and effective implementation across the state.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, the Delta State Police Command stated that it will continue to deploy proactive security measures to maintain law and order throughout the state.
