Delta Sets June 17 Security Summit as Stakeholders Gather to Tackle Rising Security Concerns
The Asaba event hosted by Governor Oborevwori gathers security agencies, traditional rulers and community groups to discuss intelligence sharing.

The Delta State Government has scheduled a statewide security summit aimed at bringing together key stakeholders to discuss emerging security challenges and explore practical solutions to improving safety across the state.
The summit, tagged **Delta Security Summit 2026**, is set to take place on Wednesday, June 17, at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, with proceedings expected to commence at 10:00 a.m.
According to a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the event will focus on the theme, **”Security: A Collective Responsibility,”** and is expected to provide a platform for dialogue among government officials, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and civil society groups.
Participants expected at the summit include heads of security agencies, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community Presidents-General, youth leaders, transport unions, civil society organisations and market women groups.
The gathering comes at a time when concerns over crime, drug-related offences, communal disputes and other security challenges continue to feature prominently in public discourse across parts of the state.
Organisers say the summit is intended to encourage broader collaboration between security agencies and local communities, with discussions expected to focus on intelligence sharing, community participation and strategies for addressing emerging threats.
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is expected to host the event, while stakeholders from different sectors will have the opportunity to contribute perspectives on strengthening security coordination and improving public safety.
The summit will also provide an avenue to assess existing security measures and identify areas where stronger cooperation between government institutions, security operatives and local communities may be required.
With security increasingly viewed as a shared responsibility, participants are expected to deliberate on practical steps aimed at building a more coordinated response to criminal activities and other threats affecting residents across Delta State.
