Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been re-elected as Governor of Ekiti State after securing a landslide victory in Saturday’s governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner in the early hours of Sunday after he polled 319,224 votes across the state’s 16 local government areas.

Announcing the result at the INEC headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, the Returning Officer, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said Oyebanji met all constitutional requirements and was duly returned elected.

“Having satisfied the requirements of the law, Oyebanji Abiodun Abayomi is hereby declared the winner and stands re-elected as Governor of Ekiti State,” she stated.

According to the final results, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, finished second with 40,533 votes, while the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dare Bejide, polled 12,872 votes.

INEC disclosed that 988,251 voters were registered for the election, with 384,940 accredited to vote. A total of 382,109 votes were cast, while 375,777 were declared valid.

Despite hailing from Ikere-Ekiti, Oluyede was defeated in his home local government area, where Oyebanji secured 8,742 votes against the PDP candidate’s 2,051 votes.
