FG Approves Payment of 8-Month Arrears to SSANU, NASU Members
The Federal Government has approved the immediate release of eight months of allowance arrears owed to non-academic staff of federal universities, polytechnics and colleges of education across the country.

The approval, issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, covers the Consolidated Non-Academic Staff Tertiary Institutions Allowance (CONTA) for the period January to August 2026.
The beneficiaries include members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU).
The Ministry of Education, under the leadership of Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, coordinated the payment process with the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF).
The decision followed an ultimatum issued by university-based unions, who had threatened industrial action over the outstanding allowances.
The Federal Government said the funds would be processed centrally and released through the payroll and banking structures of the respective federal tertiary institutions.
