Former Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has reportedly died in London after battling severe heart failure and complications linked to urinary cancer. A senior family source said his health had been declining for months before a sudden collapse. Medical officials in London confirmed he was in intensive care shortly before his condition deteriorated. A hospital insider said he “fought till the very last moment.”

Obiano, who served as governor from March 2014 to March 2022, was facing a nine-count money laundering charge filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The case, involving an alleged N4 billion misappropriation from the state treasury, was expected to continue on November 25 at the Federal High Court in Abuja before Justice Mohammed Umar.

His passing brings a sudden end to the ongoing legal proceedings and closes a significant chapter in Anambra’s political landscape.
