INEC Sets October 6 For World Press Conference as 2027 Elections Enter Final 100-Day Countdown

The meeting, which will mark the 100-day milestone to the first ballot, is scheduled to hold at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja from 10:00 a.m.

INEC said the event will bring together political parties, journalists, security agencies, civil society organisations, religious leaders, development partners, members of the diplomatic community and other key stakeholders involved in the electoral process. The meeting is strictly by invitation.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan, SAN, is expected to address the gathering and provide an update on the commission’s preparations for the 2027 elections.

The engagement is expected to provide an opportunity for the electoral body to brief Nigerians and other stakeholders on the progress of preparations, while also allowing stakeholders to engage the commission on issues surrounding the forthcoming polls.

INEC has already released its timetable for the 2027 General Election. The commission initially announced February 20, 2027, for the Presidential and National Assembly elections and March 6, 2027, for the Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections.

The October 6 meeting therefore comes as the electoral process moves into a critical stage, with political parties, candidates, election observers, security agencies and other stakeholders preparing for the polls.

The commission has also continued to engage political parties and other stakeholders on the implementation of the electoral timetable and issues affecting the conduct of the elections.

The 2027 elections will cover the offices of President and Vice President, the Senate, House of Representatives, and governorship and State House of Assembly seats in states where elections are due.

The Abuja meeting is expected to focus public attention on the commission’s readiness and provide a platform for stakeholders to receive information directly from INEC ahead of the first ballot.
