Julius Rone Bags Megastar Award, Highlights FLNG’s Role in Gas Development
The Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UTM Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (UTM FLNG), Julius Rone, has received the 2026 Megastar Man of the Decade Award, while highlighting the potential of Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) technology to unlock Nigeria’s vast gas resources.

Rone spoke on the sidelines of the ongoing 54th GasTech Conference at the Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre, Thailand, where he discussed opportunities for greater utilisation of Nigeria’s abundant natural gas reserves.
He said FLNG technology provides an opportunity to monetise stranded offshore gas resources and previously flared gas, converting them into useful energy and creating economic value.
“The floating LNG technology has been proven and has worked in several locations around the world. It can be used to monetise gas that has been wasted through flaring, convert it into useful energy and create value from it,” he said.
Rone also described gas as a strategic transition fuel, noting that Nigeria’s abundant reserves provide significant opportunities for the country to expand its role in the global energy market.
“We are focusing on gas development because we realised that gas is a transition fuel and Nigeria has gas in abundance,” he said.
The GasTech conference has attracted about 8,000 delegates from 150 countries, bringing together policymakers, investors, bankers, energy executives, innovators and other stakeholders to discuss developments in the global gas and energy industry.
Rone also commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for what he described as a renewed commitment to developing Nigeria’s gas sector, particularly efforts aimed at encouraging investment and unlocking stranded offshore gas resources.
The 2026 Megastar Man of the Decade Award ceremony is themed, “The Road to 2027: Citizens, Stakeholders, and the Democracy We Choose.”
