NAFDAC Begins Nationwide Sweep of Banned Sachet Alcohol, Small PET Bottles
The exercise across all six zones follows plant shutdowns, and violators still selling the drinks face action under existing regulations.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched a nationwide operation to remove banned alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from markets across the country.
The enforcement exercise, which is ongoing in the six geopolitical zones, targets products that remained in circulation after the expiration of the compliance period granted to manufacturers, distributors and retailers.
Announcing the exercise on its X handle, the agency said the operation followed the shutdown of production facilities that failed to comply with the Federal Government’s directive prohibiting the production, importation, distribution and sale of alcohol in sachets and PET bottles smaller than 200ml.
“NAFDAC has commenced a nationwide enforcement operation to remove alcoholic beverages packaged in sachets and PET bottles below 200ml from circulation,” the agency stated.
The regulator explained that the exercise is part of its broader efforts to enforce the ban and reduce the availability of the affected products in the marketplace.
NAFDAC added that the operation is aimed at safeguarding public health, warning that anyone found violating the directive would be dealt with in accordance with existing regulations.
This latest enforcement marks the agency’s next phase of implementation after repeatedly engaging stakeholders and extending deadlines to allow manufacturers and traders adjust to the policy.
