Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, on Friday, commissioned the Model Technical College, Oghareki in Ethiope West Local Government Area.

The institution features administrative buildings, staff quarters, hostels, a clinic, college hall, pavilion, football field, basketball court and a volleyball court. The school is also equipped with three U-shaped blocks housing multiple technical workshops fitted with specialised machinery.

The workshops cover various technical fields, including auto mechanics, auto electricals, auto bodywork, electrical installation, woodwork, welding and fabrication, block laying, bricklaying and concrete work, refrigeration, and solar installation.

Reaffirming his commitment to youth empowerment and job creation, Oborevwori said the completion of technical colleges across the state was a deliberate effort by his administration.

“In 2023, when I took over, we identified the challenges of youth empowerment and their ripple effects on our state. Therefore, we deliberately intensified our efforts towards completing technical colleges across the state,” he said.

The governor added that three more technical colleges - the Irri Model Technical College in Isoko South, the Kiagbodo Model Technical College in Burutu, and the Akugbene Model Technical College in Bomadi - currently under construction, would be commissioned in due course.

Oborevwori also announced plans to assess dilapidated schools across the state for renovation, directing the Commissioners for Primary and Secondary Education to visit schools across the local government areas and identify facilities requiring attention.

“If they have an issue there, scope it. We are capable of doing it,” he said.

He further urged school authorities, particularly students, to take ownership of the facilities and ensure their proper maintenance.

“You must imbibe the culture of maintenance to preserve the facilities of the college,” he said.

Dignitaries present at the event included former Delta State Governor, James Ibori, Senator Ede Dafinone, who represents Delta Central Senatorial District, the Delta State All Progressives Congress chairman, Solomon Arenyeka, among other government officials and party members.
