Oghara Attack Claims Life of Young Polytechnic Graduate, Leaves Co-worker Injured
A young man identified as Jeffrey, popularly known as “7,” has reportedly been killed in an attack in Otefe, Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The incident occurred between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. over the weekend, as Jeffrey and his colleague, Daniel, were returning from work at an eatery in Otefe on a motorcycle.
Both men reportedly worked at the same food outlet and lived close to one another.
While Jeffrey died from injuries sustained during the attack, Daniel was said to have survived and was taken to a hospital at a different location, as some hospitals at the location where the incident happened were reportedly on strike.
Jeffrey, who graduated from Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe, earlier this year, was described by friends and residents of his neighbourhood as a quiet and peaceful young man who kept to himself.
Those who knew him said his routine largely revolved around moving between his home and workplace, adding that he was not known for seeking trouble or engaging in conflicts.
However, conflicting accounts have emerged concerning his alleged association with a confraternity. While some residents described him as a member of the Aye, also known as the Neo-Black Movement (NBM), others referred to his alleged involvement in cult-related activities and his continued participation in the institution’s Students’ Union Government.
These claims have not been independently verified, and the circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear.
The incident has also deepened concerns over the safety of residents and workers moving around Otefe and adjoining communities at night. Oghara has previously witnessed reports of kidnapping, armed attacks and other violent crimes, prompting calls from community stakeholders for stronger security measures.
Family and friends were reportedly particularly devastated by Jeffrey’s death. Sources said his wife had arrived in the area only a few days earlier to visit him. The couple reportedly had a child below one year old, while his wife was said to be pregnant with another baby.
Residents are calling on the Delta State Government, security agencies and relevant authorities to investigate the attack, identify those responsible and take urgent steps to protect residents, especially people returning from work at night.
They also urged the authorities to strengthen security patrols and improve emergency medical access in the area to prevent further loss of lives.
