Omadino Petitions Tinubu Over Alleged Chevron Employment, Contract Exclusion
Omadino community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, has petitioned President Bola Tinubu over alleged exclusion of its people, as well as indigenous contractors and equipment owners from Chevron Nigeria Limited’s oil and gas contracts.
In a petition dated September 23, the community alleged that its people with marine equipment and other facilities required for oil and gas operations were being denied opportunities despite hosting Chevron’s operations.
It also demanded opportunities for 32 trained Itsekiri oil and gas workers, known as VTP OGERE, who it said had supported the company’s operations for more than 12 years.
Chairman of Omadino Community Management Committee, Tuoyo Mogbeyiteren said the community was particularly concerned about opportunities in offshore operations, demanding that qualified indigenous contractors be given fair access to contracts involving Self-Elevating Work-Over Platforms (SEWOP) and Jack-Up Barges.
“Even our people who have marine equipment, and other facilities required for oil and gas services, are not being given contracts. How can a host community like Omadino continue to be treated this unfairly?” the committee asked.
The community urged Tinubu to investigate the alleged marginalisation and direct Chevron and relevant regulators to ensure compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act, local content laws, Host Community Development Trust provisions and the regulations of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC).
