A six-classroom block at Eghereka Primary School in Ewu Town, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State, has collapsed, killing one pupil and injuring several others.

The dilapidated structure, which had been unused for over a decade, gave way during heavy rain while pupils were walking nearby, Warri Sentinel learnt. The Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, Edafe Bright, confirmed that a Primary 2 student, identified as Ojiyovwin Salvation, lost his life in the incident, while three others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Meanwhile, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased pupil and those affected by the tragedy. In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Festus Ahon, the Governor described the incident as “most unfortunate.” The statement also noted that the building had been out of use and lacked a roof for over a decade before its collapse.

Governor Oborevwori praised the swift actions of rescue teams that helped save the injured pupils. He also commended the Ughelli South Local Government Chairman, Lucky Avweromre, for visiting the scene and providing support to both the survivors and the family of the deceased.
