The company disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, following the planting of 200,000 trees under the Tree4Life Programme aimed at combating climate change, reversing deforestation and promoting biodiversity conservation.

“We now have a stronger commitment to our Tree4Life Project, which aims to combat climate change, reverse widespread deforestation, advance carbon sequestration, and support food security and local community livelihoods across Nigeria.

“This aligns with our mandate of ‘giving back’ – this time to nature,” the company said.

According to Seplat Energy’s 2025 Social Performance Report, the initiative has established nurseries containing more than 175,000 seedlings and trained over 300 community members in tree planting, nursery management and sustainable land-use practices.

More than 350 residents have benefited from participation in site preparation, planting operations, nursery management and logistics, while the programme also promotes sustainable agriculture and community capacity building.

Seplat posted that it would scale up the initiative from 2026, with phased planting activities, improved maintenance, tree-survival monitoring and replacement planting to ensure lasting environmental benefits.

The programme is expected to contribute to the company's target of planting one million trees by 2030, while supporting local livelihoods and restoring degraded landscapes.

The firm said the initiative reflects its commitment to responsible energy development, environmental sustainability and inclusive growth, demonstrating how reforestation can deliver both ecological and socio-economic benefits.
