The three-day Nigeria-Ethiopia Nutrition Leadership Exchange, holding from October 7 to 9, will bring officials and stakeholders from both countries together to examine how coordinated government action can strengthen nutrition delivery at federal, state and local levels.

Shettima’s participation follows an invitation from Ethiopia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Temesgen Tiruneh, who is championing the country’s multi-sectoral approach to nutrition.

The Nigerian delegation is expected to study Ethiopia’s experience through visits to food production and nutrition-related initiatives, including a wheat farm and banana plantation in Oromia, the Bounty of the Basket Training Centre and households in Mojo, and Jabdu Motors in Bishoftu.

The Vice President arrived in Addis Ababa after departing Abuja on October 6. He was received by Nigeria’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union, Ambassador Nasir Aminu, alongside other Nigerian diplomatic officials and Ethiopian government representatives.

The engagement is expected to give Nigeria an opportunity to draw practical lessons from Ethiopia’s nutrition strategy and assess approaches that could support stronger coordination and delivery of nutrition interventions at home.
