Sowore Heads to US, Canada Ahead of 2027 Presidential Race
African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, will leave Nigeria on Thursday for a political tour of the United States and Canada ahead of the 2027 general election.
The tour is expected to take Sowore to communities of Nigerians living in North America, where he will hold engagements with supporters, activists and other groups as part of efforts to build support for his presidential bid.
His campaign said the trip will also allow him to spend time with his immediate family, following an extended stay in Nigeria. Despite his absence from the country, Sowore is expected to remain involved in political activities through virtual engagements.
The development comes days after the Department of State Services asked its lawyer to seek a further adjournment of Sowore’s alleged cybercrime case until after the 2027 election. The case centres on social media comments in which he referred to President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
Sowore’s campaign maintained that the North American trip would not interrupt his preparations for the election, as he would continue to connect with supporters and take part in campaign-related activities remotely.
He is expected to return to Nigeria before the end of September to continue his campaign ahead of the election. The AAC candidate is campaigning on a platform centred on revolutionary transformation, equal rights and justice.
