Urhobo Monarchs Adopt Oborevwori as Sole 2027 Governorship Candidate

Traditional rulers under the Ukoko r’ Ivie r’ Urhobo (the forum of Urhobo monarchs) have adopted Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as the sole candidate of the Urhobo Nation for the 2027 governorship election.

The monarchs announced the decision on Thursday at a press briefing held at the Palace of the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, stressing that the unity of the Urhobo Nation was “sacrosanct and non-negotiable.”

Reading the statement, the Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, His Majesty Udurhie I, said the forum was concerned about rising political tension, hostility and thuggery ahead of the 2027 election.

The monarchs said they had consulted Urhobo sons aspiring to the governorship on different political platforms and advised them to put aside their individual ambitions and support Oborevwori, whom they described as an illustrious son of the Urhobo Nation.

“The decision of the Forum is that we, the Traditional Rulers of Urhobo Nation have adopted the Executive Governor, Rt. Hon. Elder Chief Sheriff Francis Orhovwedor Oborevwori as the sole candidate of Urhobo Nation for the 2027 Governorship Election,” the statement said.

The forum urged Urhobo sons and daughters to vote massively for the governor, citing what it described as his unprecedented development across Delta State.

Responding to questions on the senatorial seats, the Ovie of Umiaghwa-Abraka Kingdom, His Majesty Avwaeke I, said the deliberation was strictly on the governorship election.

Also, the Ovie of Agbarha-Warri Kingdom, His Majesty Igbi II, said other governorship candidates would not be received at their respective palaces as a result of the decision reached.
