WARNING: Delta Police to Resume Operation VELVET September 15, Warn Motorists Over Number Plates, Licences
The Delta State Police Command is set to resume its traffic enforcement operation, codenamed Operation VELVET, across the state from Tuesday, September 15, with motorists warned to ensure their vehicles and documents comply with road traffic regulations.

The renewed enforcement will focus, among other violations, on vehicles without proper registration plates, concealed or covered number plates and the use of unauthorised sirens.
According to details released ahead of the resumption, vehicles plying Delta roads are expected to display clearly visible registration number plates at both the front and rear.
Motorists are also expected to have valid vehicle licences and drivers’ licences available for inspection by enforcement personnel.
The warning follows the earlier reactivation of Operation VELVET in Delta, which the police said was aimed at improving compliance with traffic laws, promoting road safety and ensuring smoother movement on major roads.
The operation is also expected to target other traffic violations, including reckless and dangerous driving, driving against traffic, excessive speeding, dangerous overtaking, illegal parking, obstruction of traffic, serious overloading and the use of fake, altered, defaced or concealed number plates.
Unauthorised use of sirens will equally come under scrutiny.
The police have previously directed officers involved in the exercise to carry out enforcement lawfully and with respect for the rights and dignity of road users. The command also warned that Operation VELVET must not become an avenue for extortion, harassment, intimidation or unlawful seizure of vehicles and documents.
Motorists have consequently been advised to use the days before the September 15 resumption to check their registration plates, vehicle documents and driver's licences and correct any irregularities.
