Asagba of Asaba Marks Second Coronation Anniversary as Oborevwori, Ochei Celebrate Monarch’s Reign
The Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Obi (Prof.) Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, OON, has been celebrated by political leaders and other stakeholders as he marks his second coronation anniversary on the ancestral throne of Asaba.

The anniversary has provided an opportunity for dignitaries to reflect on the monarch’s two-year reign, particularly his contributions to peace, unity, cultural preservation and community development in Asaba and Delta State.
Among those who felicitated with the traditional ruler is the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who described the milestone as an occasion to celebrate the monarch’s contributions to the development of Asaba Kingdom and the state capital.
In a congratulatory message issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori joined the royal family, the Asagba-in-Council, traditional rulers and the people of Asaba in marking the anniversary.
The governor noted that Azinge’s reign had coincided with what he described as notable progress in Asaba, highlighting the monarch’s distinguished background as a Professor of Law, jurist and administrator as an asset to traditional leadership.
According to Oborevwori, the Asagba’s professional and academic experience had brought valuable perspectives to the administration of the traditional institution while fostering a sense of hope, progress and pride among the people.
He prayed for continued wisdom, good health and longevity for the monarch, expressing the hope that his reign would further promote peaceful coexistence in Asaba and contribute to the development of Delta State.
Former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and President of the Nigeria Tennis Federation, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Victor Ochei, also congratulated the Asagba on the occasion.
Ochei, who is the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for Delta North Senatorial District, described the second anniversary as an opportunity to acknowledge Azinge’s commitment to peace, unity, cultural preservation and the advancement of Asaba Kingdom.
He commended the monarch for bringing his extensive academic, legal and professional experience to the traditional institution, saying his leadership had continued to promote values capable of strengthening relationships and communal harmony.
Ochei particularly praised the Asagba’s efforts to preserve the cultural heritage and identity of the Asaba people, describing cultural continuity as an important responsibility of traditional leadership.
“Your Majesty, I celebrate your Second Coronation Anniversary and your continued dedication to the wellbeing of your people. May God Almighty grant you good health, wisdom and strength for many more years of purposeful service,” Ochei said.
He prayed for a continuation of peace, unity and progress under the monarch’s reign, extending his goodwill to Asaba, Delta State and the wider society.
Azinge, a Professor of Law and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, ascended the Asagba throne in 2024 following his emergence as the traditional ruler of Asaba.
Since taking up the traditional responsibilities of the stool, the monarch has combined his role as custodian of Asaba’s customs and traditions with initiatives and engagements centred on community development, cultural heritage and the welfare of his people.
His second coronation anniversary has therefore become a moment for members of the Asaba community, traditional institutions, government and other stakeholders to celebrate the journey so far while reflecting on the responsibilities ahead.
As the royal household and the Asagba-in-Council mark the occasion, prayers and goodwill have continued to be offered for the monarch’s health, wisdom and strength to lead the kingdom for many more years.
