₦39bn Ayakoromo Bridge Targets December 2027 Completion
Construction of the over ₦39 billion Ayakoromo Bridge across the River Forcados is progressing according to schedule, with completion expected in December 2027.

The inspection of the project was carried out on Thursday by the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, who urged construction firm Setraco to maintain its pace and meet the agreed deadline.
Izeze acknowledged the difficult terrain and weather conditions at the project site but expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far. However, the December 2027 target leaves residents waiting for the completion of infrastructure expected to improve movement between communities in Ughelli South and Burutu local government areas.
Setraco’s Project Manager, Nabil Chahiene, also expressed confidence that the bridge would be completed within the projected timeframe.
Awarded on December 16, 2022, the project is designed to link Egbo-Ide in Ughelli South Local Government Area with Ayakoromo in Burutu Local Government Area, communities whose connection is expected to benefit from improved transport infrastructure.
When completed, the bridge is expected to ease transportation difficulties, support trade and other economic activities, and improve residents’ access to essential services. Its significance extends beyond the construction itself, as better connectivity could reduce the difficulties associated with moving people and goods across the riverine area.
The project’s cost, which exceeds ₦39 billion, and its December 2027 completion target place attention on the contractor’s ability to deliver within the projected timeline.
While the latest inspection indicates that the government is satisfied with the pace of work, the ultimate test will be whether the bridge is completed as promised and delivers the expected benefits to communities that depend on improved road connections.
For residents of Ayakoromo, Egbo-Ide and neighbouring communities, timely delivery will be critical to ensuring that the project translates from a major public investment into a practical improvement in transportation, commerce and access to essential services.
