Bayelsa Hands Over Rescued São Tomé Fishermen to Ambassador
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has handed over two São Tomé and Príncipe fishermen rescued off the Atlantic coast to their country’s ambassador to Nigeria, Carlos Manuel Moreno.
The fishermen, Pedro Mateus and Isnaic Dafonseca, were rescued eight days ago by residents of Agge in Ekeremor Local Government Area after they reportedly lost their way while fishing in São Tomé and Príncipe.
Diri, who handed them over at his country home in Sampou on Saturday, commended the Agge community for rescuing the fishermen and ensuring their safe return to their government.
He said the residents deserved recognition and awards for their humanitarian gesture.
The ambassador travelled from the São Tomé and Príncipe Embassy in Abuja to Bayelsa for the handover.
