Iyovwaye Faults Oborevwori, Delta APC Over Campaign Rally as School Opposite Venue Crumbles
Chris Iyovwaye, Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) governorship candidate in Delta State, has criticised Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what he described as misplaced priorities, following the inauguration of the party’s campaign council at The Dome Event Centre in Asaba on Thursday.

Iyovwaye drew attention to Government Model Secondary School, GRA, Asaba, located opposite the event venue, arguing that the contrast between the elaborate political gathering

and the reported poor condition of the public school raised questions about the state government’s commitment to education.
While the campaign council inauguration featured elaborate decorations and arrangements for political leaders and party supporters, Iyovwaye said the school across the road remained in a deplorable condition, with deteriorating buildings and classrooms requiring urgent attention.
In a statement reacting to the event, the NDC candidate questioned how government officials could repeatedly attend functions at the venue without addressing the condition of a public school within such close proximity.
He argued that the contrast reflected a wider governance problem in Delta State, where political ceremonies and celebrations appeared to receive attention while essential public services, particularly education and healthcare, continued to face challenges.
“A government that can provide comfortable chairs for politicians should first ensure that the children who will lead tomorrow have decent chairs to sit on today,” Iyovwaye said.
He maintained that the condition of public schools should be a priority for any administration seeking to improve the lives of residents, adding that access to decent learning environments was essential to the future of Delta’s children.
The governorship candidate also questioned the value of political gatherings and project commissioning ceremonies when basic infrastructure in critical sectors remained in need of attention.
His criticism comes as the Delta APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections following the inauguration of its campaign council, an event attended by prominent party leaders and political officeholders.
Iyovwaye called on the state government to reassess its priorities and direct greater attention and resources towards public education and healthcare.
“Delta State deserves better. It is time to get our priorities right,” he said.
The government is yet to respond to Iyovwaye’s criticism.
