Egbo, Oromoni, Five Others Nominated for 2026 Nigeria's Best Local Government Chairmen Merit Award

Seven Delta State council chairmen have been shortlisted for recognition under the 25th Edition of the Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award (LOGMA).

The list, which highlights local government chairmen considered for the prestigious recognition, includes council bosses from different state in Nigeria reflecting the spread of the nominations across the country.

The nominated Delta State chairmen are:

•⁠ ⁠Chief Augustine Ogedegbe, JP — Ethiope East Local Government Area

•⁠ ⁠Prince Godwin Ogorugbo — Isoko North Local Government Area

•⁠ ⁠Sylvester Oromoni — Warri South West Local Government Area

•⁠ ⁠Olorogun J. O. Egbo — Ughelli North Local Government Area

•⁠ ⁠Hon. Emmanuel B. Chinye — Aniocha North Local Government Area

•⁠ ⁠Hon. Julius Takeme — Burutu Local Government Area

•⁠ ⁠Chief Anthony Onoriode Ofoni — Uvwie Local Government Area

The nominations place the seven council chairmen among local government leaders being considered for recognition for their leadership and contributions to grassroots administration.

The inclusion of chairmen from Isoko North, Warri South West, Ughelli North, Aniocha North, Burutu and Uvwie also gives the recognition a broad geographical spread, bringing together council leadership from different parts of Delta State.

The Nigerian Local Government Chairmen Merit Award is designed to recognise outstanding performance and leadership at the grassroots level, where local government administrations remain closest to the everyday needs of residents.

The 2026 nominations are therefore expected to draw attention to the performance of the respective councils and the impact of their policies and programmes on communities.

The 2026 recognition also comes against the backdrop of renewed national attention on the role of local governments in delivering basic services, driving grassroots development and responding directly to the needs of citizens.

The recognition of the seven Delta chairmen underscores the growing importance of effective leadership at the local level and the need for council administrations to translate public office into tangible improvements in the lives of residents.

According to LOGMA, the nominations were a result of responses from the public via radio and television.

Final winners will be chosen after thorough scrutiny of the public opinion poll.

Reacting to the nomination, Ogedegbe thanked the organisers for considering his administration for the recognition, describing the development as an encouragement to do more for the people of Ethiope East.

He said the nomination would further motivate him to consolidate ongoing projects and programmes while pursuing initiatives capable of improving living conditions across the local government.
