New Delta CP Unveils Security Agenda, Targets Kidnapping, Cultism, Cybercrime

The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, has unveiled a fresh security agenda aimed at strengthening crime prevention, community policing and public confidence in the state.

Erale, who is the 25th Commissioner of Police of the Delta State Command, disclosed this on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, during his inaugural press briefing in Asaba.

He said the protection of lives and property would remain the Command’s top priority, stressing that Delta’s strategic economic importance in the Niger Delta makes effective security essential to development and stability.

The Commissioner outlined discipline, community policing, stronger collaboration with sister security agencies, improved crime-fighting strategies and public confidence as key pillars of his administration.

Erale pledged strict enforcement of police rules and regulations, respect for human rights and zero tolerance for corruption, extortion and other forms of misconduct.

He also promised to reward officers who demonstrate integrity and exceptional service.

On community policing, the Commissioner said the Command would strengthen partnerships with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth and women’s groups, religious organisations and other stakeholders.

He urged residents to provide timely and credible information to security agencies, emphasising that community intelligence would help the police detect and prevent crimes before they occur.

Erale said the Command would intensify operations against kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery, cybercrime, violent crimes, oil-related offences and other emerging threats.

He further announced plans to deploy personnel and resources according to crime trends and identified hotspots across Delta State.

The new CP also said the Command would review its existing operational strategies and shift from largely reactive policing to proactive, intelligence-driven and technology-enabled crime prevention.

He disclosed that measurable performance indicators would be introduced for tactical teams, while data analysis, intelligence assessment, technology and continuous training would be used to respond to changing crime patterns.

On public trust, Erale pledged to improve police visibility, responsiveness and complaint handling, while ensuring that citizens are treated with dignity and respect regardless of their status.

He said his administration would work towards creating a policing culture where residents see the police as partners in maintaining security.

The Commissioner commended his predecessor, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, and the Command’s management team for their contributions to strengthening security in the state.

The new CP also assured the media of a professional and frank working relationship, while directing officers and men of the Command to align with his mission and security agenda.
