NUC Inspects Godday Erewa University Facilities Ahead of Take-Off

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has conducted a resource verification exercise at Godday Erewa University, Sapele, in Delta state, as part of preparations for the commencement of academic programmes at the institution.

The NUC team visited the university to inspect its human and material resources and assess the adequacy of facilities for the proposed programmes.

The exercise covered three broad academic areas: Computing; Arts, Management and Social Sciences; and Allied Health Sciences, comprising 15 programmes.

Speaking during the exercise, a representative of the NUC explained that the resource verification was part of the Commission’s quality assurance process designed to ensure that universities have the required resources to effectively commence their programmes.

Stressing that the exercise was not a fault-finding mission but an opportunity to identify the university’s strengths and assess areas requiring improvement, he added that where gaps are identified, the Commission would provide guidance and recommendations on the appropriate steps to address them.

The proposed take-off programmes include Computer Science, Cyber Security, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, International Relations, Criminology and Security Studies, Nursing Science, Public Health, Medical Laboratory Science, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

Facilities inspected during the exercise include the Medical and Nursing Sciences facilities, as well as an auditorium with 204 seating capacity.

Speaking on behalf of the university, its founder, Godday Erewa, expressed appreciation to the NUC for its continued guidance and support throughout the institution’s development process.

He said the university was conceived as more than a physical infrastructure project, noting that its vision is centred on creating sustainable opportunities, nurturing talents and equipping future generations with knowledge and skills to compete globally, while remaining rooted in their heritage.

Erewa expressed confidence that the institution would become a legacy project that will advance learning, promote research, create employment opportunities and contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
