Oborevwori Sends 13th-Month Salary Bill to Delta Assembly

Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has forwarded a bill seeking the enactment of a law to provide for the payment of a 13th-month salary to eligible public servants in the state.

The bill was contained in a letter transmitted to the Delta State House of Assembly and read by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, during Wednesday’s plenary.

The proposed legislation, titled “A Bill for a Law to Provide for the Payment of Thirteenth Month Salary to Public Servants of Delta State, 2026 and for Related Matters,” seeks to establish a legal framework for the payment of an additional monthly salary to eligible workers in the state public service.

In his letter, Governor Oborevwori explained that the Delta State Executive Council had earlier approved the payment of the 13th-month salary as a welfare initiative aimed at boosting workers’ morale, productivity and overall wellbeing.

According to the Governor, the proposed payment would be equivalent to one gross monthly salary for eligible public servants.

He urged the lawmakers to give the bill the necessary consideration and pass it into law.

The proposed legislation is expected to provide a statutory basis for the payment of the 13th-month salary, ensuring that the initiative is backed by law.

The development is likely to be welcomed by public servants across Delta State, particularly as the additional payment is designed to serve as a welfare incentive and further motivate workers to improve productivity and service delivery.

The bill will now undergo the legislative process at the Delta State House of Assembly before it can become law.
