The Action Peoples Party (APP) has picked its Delta State Chairman, Hon. Okaegwu Isioma Peter, as its candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Okaegwu emerged through a consensus arrangement at the party’s governorship primary, securing the backing of party leaders and members as the APP prepares for the 2027 contest.

Speaking with journalists in Asaba after the primary, Okaegwu thanked the party leadership, members and supporters for the confidence reposed in him.

He described his emergence as a victory for the entire party rather than a personal achievement, saying he would work with members across the state to strengthen the APP ahead of the election.

The new candidate also promised to run an inclusive campaign and maintain an open-door approach to party affairs, regardless of members’ positions or status within the organisation.

He appealed to party members to close ranks and remain committed to the APP, stressing that unity would be crucial to building a competitive political structure capable of challenging for the governorship in 2027.

Okaegwu, who became APP Delta chairman in April 2026, had previously described the party as an alternative platform for Deltans seeking a different political direction.

With his emergence, the APP now joins the growing list of political parties positioning candidates and structures ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Delta State.
