Okpebholo Swears In 18 Edo Council Chairmen
Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has sworn in the 18 newly elected chairmen of the state’s Local Government Areas, marking the commencement of their tenure in office.
The governor announced the development in a statement shared on his official social media handle on Friday, where he charged the council chairmen to prioritise the development and welfare of residents at the grassroots.
Okpebholo urged them to complement the efforts of the state government and ensure that the impact of government is felt across communities, while warning them against corruption.
He said, “I also urged them to shun corruption and lead with humility, integrity, accountability and a genuine commitment to service.”
The governor also stressed the responsibilities that come with local government autonomy, stating, “With greater Local Government autonomy comes greater responsibility.”
He further urged the chairmen to key into the state government’s SHINE Agenda and work towards building what he described as “a more peaceful, prosperous and developed Edo State.”
Congratulating the newly sworn-in chairmen, Okpebholo said, “The people have entrusted you with leadership. Go and justify that trust.”
