Over 45,000 Displaced, 20 Communities Sacked By Terrorists — Peter Obi
NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised concerns over the worsening displacement crisis in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, following his visit to an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp housing more than 500 displaced Nigerians.
Obi said more than 45,000 people have reportedly been displaced across Mangu, with over 20 communities sacked by terrorists, leaving thousands of residents unable to return to their ancestral homes, farms and communities.
He called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts to secure the affected communities and create conditions for the safe and dignified return of displaced persons.
According to him, displaced Nigerians must not be forgotten, stressing that their right to life, safety, dignity and livelihood must be protected regardless of their ethnicity, religion or political affiliation.
Obi also offered support to the displaced families during his visit, describing the gesture as an expression of solidarity and compassion.
He reiterated his position that “as long as there is one displaced Nigerian, all Nigerians are displaced.”
