The intervention, which will run for six months, was among the resolutions reached at a conciliation meeting between both parties at the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja on Tuesday, October 27.

Beyond the transport support, the meeting addressed unpaid allowances and the unresolved implementation of the national minimum wage, with labour representatives pressing for action on outstanding workers’ entitlements.

Under the agreement, peculiar allowance arrears are to be paid in three equal monthly instalments beginning in November. Nineteen months of outstanding allowances owed to health workers are also scheduled for settlement within three months from December.

However, the question of when the national minimum wage should take effect remains unresolved. Both parties agreed to constitute a Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee immediately to begin discussions on the matter.

The meeting also referred the issue of tax relief for workers to the National Executive Council for consideration.
