Rotary Club of Ogunu Gets New President

Rotarian Austin Edon has assumed office as the new President of the Rotary Club of Ogunu, District 9141, for the 2026/2027 Rotary year.

Edon took over from Rotarian Osamuyi Omokha at the club’s leadership transition held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, with the Executive Chairman of Warri South Local Government Council, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, as Special Guest of Honour.

In his farewell address, Omokha highlighted the club’s achievements during his 2025/2026 tenure, including membership growth from 22 to 25, maternal healthcare support, polio vaccination campaigns, youth development through the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), and the chartering of an Interact Club at Ugbuwangue Secondary School.

He said the club also donated desks and chairs to Yowuren College and Ugbuwangue Secondary School, supported petty traders with branded End Polio umbrellas and contributed to the Rotary Foundation

Reflecting on his tenure, Omokha said, “We proved that we are truly People of Action.” He added that the club received Rotary International’s Excellence Award Certificate and a Gladiator Certificate for its commitment to Rotary obligations.

In his inaugural address, Edon said education, youth development, healthcare and self-reliance would be central to his administration.

He identified the “Dust to Desk” project as a major priority, aimed at providing decent desks for students and working towards establishing a functional science laboratory at Ugbuwangue College.

Edon also pledged to expand maternal and child healthcare support, strengthen partnerships, promote membership growth and leadership development, and improve fellowship among members.

He called on Rotarians, individuals, corporate organisations, parents and friends of Rotary to support the club’s projects, stressing that sustainable impact would require collective effort.

The event which was chaired by Hon. Eugene Ebisin, also featured the inauguration of the club’s board, with Rtn. Festus Ohanu as Vice President, alongside other officers assigned to key leadership positions.
