Delta Businessman Dies After Business Venture Funded With ₦1.8m Loan Reportedly Fails
After sending distress messages to relatives, the 40-year-old was found dead near Ebrumede Flyover and identified by his wife.
A 40-year-old businessman identified as Ogbeni Goggo has reportedly died by suicide in Delta State following financial difficulties linked to a business venture he allegedly financed with a ₦1.8 million loan.
Goggo had allegedly sent distress messages on Wednesday to some relatives and friends, indicating that he was overwhelmed and no longer wanted to continue living.
According to accounts surrounding the incident, the businessman had obtained the loan to expand or establish a business, but the venture reportedly failed to generate the expected returns. His inability to meet the repayment obligations is said to have deepened the financial pressure he was facing.
Goggo, who had been married for about three years, reportedly failed to return home after sending the messages, prompting concern from his wife and relatives.
When attempts to reach him proved unsuccessful, family members began searching for him. The search continued into Thursday, with his wife eventually reporting him missing at the Ebrumede Police Station in Uvwie Local Government Area.
Police officers reportedly showed her a photograph of an unidentified deceased man who had been found around the Ebrumede Flyover/DSC Roundabout area. She subsequently identified the deceased as her husband.
Reports surrounding the incident indicate that members of the public had found Goggo at the location after he reportedly ingested a poisonous substance (sniper). Witnesses allegedly raised an alarm and attempted to assist him after he collapsed and began experiencing convulsions, but he could not be saved.
His remains were subsequently evacuated and deposited at a morgue in Agbarho.
The incident has left his wife, relatives and friends devastated, with reports indicating that his wife reportedly collapsed after receiving confirmation of his death.
The circumstances surrounding the death have drawn attention to the potentially devastating consequences of financial distress, particularly for small business owners dealing with debt, failed investments and pressure to meet financial obligations.
